Terence Atmane at the French Open, has stirred up a hornet’s nest! The local French tennis player was allowed to continue his first-round match, even after creating a tense situation. Let’s take a look at the whole scenario, dicing into what happened during the first round that literally angered his opponent, while the umpire and supervisor went with their decision over the chaos.

During a match on the 492-capacity Court 12, the 22-year-old tennis player lost a point in the fourth set against Austria’s Sebastian Ofner and smacked a ball over the wall into the seats behind the opposite baseline. Nevertheless, the local wildcard at the French Open avoided being disqualified after striking a ball into a spectator, sparking a discussion about unfair discrimination.

On the other hand, the play was delayed for nearly 15 minutes as the chair umpire and a tournament referee spoke to the fan who was hit and deliberated on any potential action against Atmane. Ultimately, he received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct but faced no further penalties. However, it was his opponent who was not happy with the decision taken and wanted disqualification.

The Austrian tennis player who achieved victory, said, “For me, it was a bit surprising, because if you do something like that on a small court, you have to be punished, you know? Because it’s not like you hit the ball normally. It was full power. The ball was so fast. Straight in the crowd. There were people disqualified for less.”

Atmane remained on his side of the court during the evaluation of his actions, as evidenced by replays, and watched the ball go off his racquet. Along with that, his fans were cheering noisily inside Court 6 as the decision was made.

However, do you know that this is not the first time the 22-year-old has literally hit a spectator during a match? In addition, it has also given rise to worries about his on-court actions that might create a problem for the 22-year-old tennis player in the future.

After the details of the incident were posted on social media, Blair Henley, a well-known tennis media figure, talked about the French player’s unsettling actions on the court throughout the competition. She wrote, “After watching Atmane play three matches in Dallas this year, this does not surprise me at all. I hope he can make some mental adjustments because he’s delightful off court.”

Furthermore, even Thai-Son Kwiatkowski revealed that Atmane had struck a ball into the crowd earlier in the year, before the French Open incident. The American player who faced the 22-year-old on that particular day in a qualifying match held in Dallas nearly four months prior claimed that Atmane did the same and was given simply a warning.
