The French Open 2021 ended last week, and the winners broke numerous records. The tournament had everything from comebacks to action-packed matches. However, Gilles Simon added some spice with his interview for L’Equipe. The French international went on a little rant about the quality of matches at the French Open.
Gilles Simon, 36, lost in the first round at the Roland Garros to Marton Fucsovics. He lost in straight sets to the Hungarian, 4-6, 1-6, 6-7.

Gilles Simon was a bit annoyed with certain things after the end of the French Open. In his interview with L’Equipe, the French player said that the big players were getting all the importance. Only three or four of the big players were making the headlines, even though the youngsters were working hard to reach the finals.

“I tweet very little but some things caught my attention. There are a lot of people, who are stuck on certain things and you want to tell them: “But you watch them, the matches?” Me, I see the half Nadal – Djokovic and the final Djokovic – Tsitsipas, and I see crazy matches! Because some would like it to be Nadal or Federer who wins, that they minimize the quality of Tsitsipas as soon as he makes a mistake, while he has a dream attitude, that makes me react.
“When you want a result, you don’t see the game in the same way anymore. Too many people are just missing out while the players are just monstrous!” said the French star.

Simon later recovered from his rant and said positive things about the French Open. The French star lost in his first-round match at the Halle Open. He lost 1-6, 6-3, 4-6 to Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia.
