As the 2021 French Open entered the second week, a lot of intriguing matchups are in place for fans to get entertained. On the men’s draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev will face each other in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros.

This matchup will mark their first meeting on the Parisian clay and eighth, overall. The Greek star has always been intimidated by Medvedev‘s playing style, and as a result, has managed to win only one of their previous seven encounters.

But, Tsitsipas will have the upper hand entering into the match as his clay-court record this season is phenomenal. The young Greek has defeated the likes of Jeremy Chardy, John Isner, Pablo Carreno Busta, before reaching the quarters.

On the other hand, Medvedev didn’t play much on the red-dirt this year. Heading into the French Open, the Russian played only three matches on clay and lost two of them.

But the reigning Australian Open finalist deferred all odds and won four matches on the Parisian clay for the first time in his career. Despite his clay-court record, Medvedev’s soaring confidence ahead of the quarter-finals will make a difference against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
