The wait for an American men’s singles champion at the US Open has been long. Andy Roddick last won the men’s singles title for his country at the 2003 edition of the tournament. However, the American hope is still alive in men’s singles at this year’s US Open, with the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz flying the American flag high. Both Tiafoe and Fritz are in the last eight of the tournament in New York. As a result, American actor, Matthew McConaughey heaped huge praise on the two.
Taking to X, the 54-year-old actor wrote, “@FTiafoe @Taylor_Fritz97 win again. Red white and blue closing in @usopen.” Both Tiafoe and Fritz had thrilling pre-quarterfinal wins over Alexei Popyrin and Casper Ruud, respectively. Seeing McConaughey lavishing praise on him, Tiafoe was humbled, as he replied, “Appreciate the love legend.”
