It has been an eventful season for one of America’s top stars, Frances Tiafoe. The 26-year-old has played continuously on the ATP Tour. Additionally, he was also on the ATP Challenger circuit earlier this year. The side effects of the hectic season were visible as Tiafoe dropped a workout video, on which Andy Murray took a cheeky dig. However, the American star was quick to his own defense.
To put things into perspective, Tiafoe has played in more than 50 matches in 2024. Although he failed to win any titles this year, Frances Tiafoe dug deep in most of the tournaments. While the season has ended, Tiafoe has been hitting the gym regularly to keep his body in shape. However, one of his exercises became a talking point on social media after Tiafoe took to Instagram and posted a glimpse of his workout video.
In the clip, Tiafoe could be seen exercising on the versa climber. However, Tiafoe was slow to make the rotations, and this invited a hilarious jibe from Murray. The British legend commented, “Why is the video of you on the versa climber in slow motion?” Subsequently, Tiafoe turned defensive and revealed why it looked in slow motion, replying, “I was at my last set legs were heavy give me some slack. Love yaa brotha.”

It was a busy week for Tiafoe, who hit the court apart from exercising in the gym. He also attended an NBA match and supported the Mavericks while wearing their jersey. Nonetheless, Tiafoe is dedicated to keeping his body fit even when not playing in the tournaments. “In [non-major] tournaments, we have more days off, so I get after it a little bit: cardio, lifts, things like that. I want to make sure my body’s able to respond to tough moments as I get deeper into draws, but you taper as matchday gets closer,” he once revealed.

As the competition gets more intense, players have to run from one end of the court to the other multiple times in the same rally. As a result, agility becomes a crucial aspect of the game, something that Frances Tiafoe has mastered. However, when it comes to running off the court, Tiafoe isn’t very fond of it. He said, “I hate running. Everything about it. I can’t stand it. As you start to get fitter, it feels better and you start to like it. You have to go to a different place mentally and trick your mind into loving it – but I hate it.”

Although he avoids running on most occasions, Tiafoe has a set routine when it comes to exercise. “I’ll do plyos, some one-legged stuff, hops and jumps so I can be a little springy. Then I’ll do lifts, legs, core and shoulders and a cardio day – run three or four miles sometimes, or one and a half during a tournament. Then you have interval days: I have to be able to do quick bursts,” Tiafoe noted about his weekly exercise routine.
Frances Tiafoe didn’t have the best of endings to this season, losing in the round of 64 of the Paris Masters. However, he’ll now look to come back rejuvenated for the next season and aim to put his best foot forward.
