Boris Becker has undoubtedly established himself as a legendary figure who graced the tennis courts during the 90s era. However, the German tennis icon, who is known for his six Grand Slam triumphs, fell into disgrace in 2022 due to his tax evasion case. As he was accused of hiding his assets, the former tennis ace served eight months of his two-and-a-half-year sentence before his deportation from the UK.

It’s been almost a year since the Hall of Famer was released from prison; however, the ghosts from his past are still haunting him, according to his recent disclosures. Reminiscing about his ‘unforgettable’ imprisonment experiences, the 6-time singles Grand Slam champion compared it to the ATP players’ petty excuses.

In an interview with the L’Equipe, the German tennis legend was recently asked about his first as well as his last night in prison in the UK. While calling it an ‘unforgettable’ experience, Boris Becker asserted that it was way worse than players complaining about the pressure they experience on a breakpoint.

The former tennis ace went on to mock other excuses of the ATP players while comparing them to his own ordeals. He said, “When I hear players complaining about the quality of the food in the lounge, I laugh. When I hear players complaining about training conditions on the courts, I laugh.” The six-time singles Grand Slam champion candidly said that it was nothing when compared to what he experienced in jail. Becker added, “The first night in prison, you don’t sleep, any more than you sleep the last night.”

It was undoubtedly a horrible experience for the ATP legend, who also had to share space with criminals in a dark and dingy jail cell. His admissions at the time were certainly horrifying to the average tennis fan, who could hardly associate Becker with anything short of flamboyance.
