After outclassing some of the big guns, the?American tennis star has reached the semifinal rounds of the ATP 500 event. However, his remarkable campaign was interrupted due to a highly contentious episode in Washington.

The former world No. 5 player’s high-profile match against the Brit, Andy Murray became a target of protests by environmental activists who made relentless attempts to incite disruption on the court. Now, after a few days of that bizarre incident, Fritz has finally come forward to candidly express his annoyance with those eco-protesters. In the process, he also reminisced about a similar incident that preciously interrupted Roger Federer‘s farewell tournament.

In a three-hour marathon in Washington, the American top seed recently outperformed the British tennis legend, Andy Murray. (6-7 (2-7) 6-3 6-4.) However, it was the first set of the blockbuster clash that attracted the most controversy due to an act of protest from environmental activists. The ATP 500 event’s match was marred when three giant tennis balls were thrown onto the court by those climate protesters.

After a five minutes delay, the game resumed when the eco-protesters were escorted from the stadium with the help of security intervention. Speaking about the bizarre incident, Taylor Fritz reminisced about the shocking act by an eco-protester in the previous season’s Laver Cup.

In the press conference of the ongoing Citi Open, he said, “The first thing I thought was, look around, make sure no one is jumping on the court, because at Laver Cup, someone ran on the court and, you know, tried to light a fire on court.”

The tennis community witnessed a horrifying act during the Swiss Maestro’s farewell tournament, Laver Cup in the previous season. A climate protester ran onto the court during the intense encounter between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Diego Schwartzman. Not only that, he further tried to light a fire right in the middle of the court before he was taken down by the tournament’s security.

Fritz was a bit worried as he thought that the now protestors would also act in a similar manner. Later, the young tennis star also expressed his annoyance with such demonstrations on the court.

Fritz asserts that these protests are spoiling their matches

The American was clearly dissatisfied with the manner the protestors were carrying out their cause, believing it was spoiling everyone’s enjoyment of watching tennis. Fritz added, “It?s annoying, obviously, when they do it. It?s ruining everyone?s time. Everyone wants to watch the tennis.”

The American tennis star further urged these protesters to lead their cause in a better way that won’t spoil anyone’s joy in the sporting community.?He said, “I get they’re protesting, but, like, there’s just got to be a better way to do it.”
