Wimbledon 2023 has finally got its dream match. It is Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic in the final. The world no.1 and the world no.2 will be squaring off against each other in what appears to be a match that would offer edge-of-the-seat entertainment. Unfortunately, both the semi-finals were highly lopsided, so one would hope the finals aren’t that way.
Winning one grand slam would be a dream come true for any tennis player who has ever picked up a racquet. And probably, winning multiple grand slams will quench the thirst for more and make most players settle for less, but not if you are Novak Djokovic. Despite being the owner of 23 Grand Slams, he still isn’t satisfied. That alone bears testimony to the greatness of the man. He is hungry for more and wants to equal Federer’s 8 Wimbledon titles.

Djokovic has said that his ambition is still the highest for him, despite claiming his record 23rd French Open title a month back. His perennial ambition would be a source of inspiration for all the young and upcoming athletes who would want to take up the sport. He is not satisfied with just breaking Rafael Nadal’s record. He just wants to win every tournament. Such is his unabating passion for the sport. Ahead of Sunday’s final against the world no.1, Djokovic wants to approach it just like it was his first final and give it all. He says he still feels great pressure ahead of the contest.
Djokovic says, “I mean, pressure is there. It’s still very high. I still feel goose bumps and butterflies and nerves coming into every single match. I’m going to be coming into Sunday’s final like it’s my first.
“I don’t want to approach that final in any more relaxed way than I have previous ones, meaning the intention needs to be clear. Goal and approach will be as serious and professional as it has been always.”
Djokovic has virtually no pressure to play except maybe equalling Federer’s record of 8 Wimbledon titles. But, in contrast, he says pressure is high.
A Djokovic win would mean that he equals Roger Federer’s 8 Wimbledon titles
Djokovic has said that there is high pressure going into the summit clash between him and Alcaraz. However, there is even more pressure considering the fact that if he triumphs in the match, he would equal the great Roger Federer’s record of 8 Wimbledon titles. Though Djokovic has said that records per se don’t add to the pressure factor and that he approaches every match seriously, at the back of his mind he would know this is an important record to equal.
But this time between the trophy and him stands the daunting task of pushing aside the in-form Carlos Alcaraz. He has been playing at such a high level and despite grass not being his best surface he has adapted very well to it. Djokovic applauded Alcaraz for adapting well to grass said that ‘this is the best final we could have’
Alcaraz gave Medvedev a drubbing in straight sets which is not at all easy to do. He exacted revenge on Medvedev for how he got vanquished in straight sets in the 2021 Wimbledon. And Djokovic too, looks invincible having not lost a single grand slam match this year so far. So this is going to be one heck of a match, and the tennis universe is in for some absolute treat and delight.
