In the world of tennis, there are few names as revered and well-known as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. Collectively referred to as the “Big Three,” these legendary players have dominated the sport for over two decades, amassing a staggering number of titles, records, and accolades. Their talent, sportsmanship, and charisma have transcended the tennis court, making them immensely popular figures not just within the sport but also across the globe. But there is a new contender for their undisputed throne: the Wimbledon champ, Carlos Alcaraz. According to a German legend, he has already done enough to claim the throne!
Recently, in an interview, six-time major winner Boris Becker made a comparison between the three tennis stars and the Wimbledon 2023 men’s singles winner Carlos Alcaraz, claiming he has got the same skills and capability to eclipse the Big Three.

The impact of Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal on the sport of tennis cannot be overstated. Their immense popularity extends beyond their on-court accomplishments, as they are also known for their philanthropic endeavors, sportsmanship, and dedication to promoting the sport. As ambassadors for tennis, they have inspired countless aspiring players and have forever changed the landscape of the game.
On the other hand, this is Carlos’ second grand slam win and first Wimbledon title. Comparing him to the Big 3 will be considered as recency bias by most fans. But that didn’t stop Becker from doing exactly the same. In a recent interview, Becker made claims about him being able to surpass the three superstars of tennis.

In his exclusive interview with Eurosport, Becker said, “Roger, Rafa, and Novak, there will probably never be such triumphs again. Who can take the scepter? We’ve mentioned the name several times. Carlos Alcaraz has taken it over, and I think the world will thank him that we have seen such a likable, refreshing, almost innocent-looking young player from Spain, who does it as if it were the most natural thing in the world.”

This unfair comparison between a player who has only 2 Grand Slams to his name and 3 players who have more than 20 seemed to be inviting unnecessary hype around Carlos. But the German tennis legend is adamant in his belief.
Boris also feels Carlos will soon bring in a change of era
Elaborating on the same sentiments, Boris has also previously talked about how Carlos will be bringing in a change of guard. He thinks that he has the ability to bring influence and change in the era. According to him, Novak became the GOAT after he won the Roland Garros.

So, if Carlos wants to become the GOAT, then he also needs to win the French Open next year so that he can rightfully claim the title. However, Carlos does not agree with him. He feels that there is a long way to go for him and till Novak continues to play, he cannot bring in a change of era.
