Aussie star, Nick Kyrgios is all set to make his return to tennis after playing just one match in the last 2 years. After having a stellar season in 2022 he suffered knee and wrist injuries and had to undergo three surgeries. There was a point of time, when there were some serious doubts on his comeback to the court. Talking about this in a previous interview with 9News Melbourne, he said, “It was a 15 miracle percent chance that I was going to get back to playing at this level and here we are.” However, now we’re just a few days away from seeing him back in action. How does Nick Kyrgios look back at his horrifying experience in the last couple of years?

In that same interview, while speaking on his comeback on home soil, Nick Kyrgios was heard saying, “Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years.” Time and again, Nick Kyrgios has revealed how challenging it was for him both physically and mentally during this phase, but what really kept him going? “I always have wanted to leave the game of tennis myself. I wasn’t going to let this injury be the dictator of if I would ever play again,” said the Aussie.

His struggle with his wrist was so severe that once he spoke about how he had to practice with the balls used in “Under-10s training” to get his writs used to hitting again. There was a time when he didn’t feel any improvement in his wrist. Recalling some of those moments during the recent episode of the ‘Nothing Major’ podcast, Nick Kyrgios said, “I’ve major wrist surgery after 2022. I honestly felt I wasn’t going to play again. I was having pain in my wrist.

Further explaining his horrifying situation to Sam Querrey and others in the podcast he added, “You guys know, you look at some of these guys that have wrist surgeries, they never came back to the same. I won’t be probably the same player that I was, but I think I didn’t want to kind of go out after that amazing year…I mean you gotta be in shape to play Grand Slams…I feel pretty good.” Talking about putting an end to his career on his own terms, a few days ago we heard a very interesting comment from this Aussie superstar.

I look at how Andy Murray’s doing it now, and how Rafael [Nadal] is going out, I don’t want to be like that either. I don’t want to be kind of crawling to the finish line in a sense. It’s like you’ve achieved everything. You deserve to go out, I think, a little bit more gracefully than he’s done. I think that the surgeries, the pain, it’s just not worth it, in my opinion,” said Nick Kyrgios.
