The American tennis professional, while addressing the media after his defeat, expressed his frustration and reflected on his mistakes.

At the post-match conference of the last majors of the year, a clearly devastated Fritz said, “Been playing really well. Had really high hopes. I feel like an idiot for thinking that I could win this thing, win the US Open.”

Fritz fought tooth and nail in the first two sets. However, his opponent and fellow American tennis ace Brandon Holt, who isn’t even in the ATP top 100, performed brilliantly and made the match one sided in the last three sets. Holt advanced with a 6-7(3) 7-6(1) 6-3 6-4 victory in the opening round.

Fritz’s 2022 season – a mixed bag of brilliant and disappointing results
Following a decent run in the Australian Open, Fritz claimed triumphed over an injury-stricken Nadal at Indian Wells. The American broke the 20 matches winning streak of the 22 times Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal by claiming the title. Thereafter, he reached the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters in the clay court season and lost his semifinals seat to the eventual finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
