Father of Four, Roger Federer Confesses to Everyday Parental Learnings – ‘We Talk a Lot..’

Being a parent is not an easy task for anyone, even for Roger Federer who has been at the top of his field for a long time. The former number 1 became a father for the first time in 2009 when Mirka Federer gave birth to twins. The pair would go on to have another set of twins five years later in 2014. The Swiss Maestro has had a major learning curve in becoming a parent and still finds himself learning about his kids.

Although in a sport that forces him to travel around the world, Federer is a family man through and through. However, he is still facing problems when it comes to rearing his children.

Roger Federer still learning how to be a parent

Roger Federer has been deemed the Swiss Maestro due to his mind-boggling tennis-playing abilities. However, he is not the master when it comes to all areas. Being a parent does not come easily to anyone, and Federer is no different. In a recent interview with Le Matin, a Swiss French-language daily newspaper. He discussed creating a motivational drive for her daughter.   

Although he tries to guide them to the best of his abilities, it does not ensure that he is always well-understood by his children. “We talk a lot on a daily basis. I see myself as a motivational coach. Sometimes I say to myself ‘Wow, sacred speech Roger!’ And five minutes later, they do the opposite of what I asked them,” said the 20-time grand slam champion while laughing.

While the Swiss Maestro can take care of his children, he would not be able to do it without his wife. Her presence in his life became especially important when he was still playing on tour.

How Mirka Federer is a pillar of support for the entire family 

Marc Rosset’s book The Roger Federer Effect discusses Federer’s encounter with Mirka and how she contributed to his success. Rosset stated, “The most important meeting was with Mirka, his wife. I always say: he owes 50 percent of his success to her. Without her, his career would not have been possible. She always had his back. Even when their family grew and the covetousness around him.“

Mirka’s dedication to her family became one of the biggest reasons Roger managed to continue playing at the highest level for the longest possible time. He was supported by her at each step and continues to be held up by her as her children begin their teenage years.
