After winning his 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 2022, Rafael Nadal is on his way home. Last Sunday, the Spaniard became the only men’s singles player to win 21 Grand Slam titles after beating Daniil Medvedev in the final. Undoubtedly, this match was one of the best finals ever played.

After the Spaniard’s historic achievement, a petition has started online to name the airport of Mallorca after Rafael Nadal.

According to Marca, Victor Bonniny started this petition through Change.org. According to him, the Palma airport at Mallorca should be named after Rafael Nadal for creating history at the Australian Open 2022.

“Rafael Nadal is the best tennis player in history and the greatest ambassador of Mallorca. He is the one who most deserves Palma airport to bear his name,” Victor stated.

So far, the petition has got a good response from many people, over 1940 people had already signed the petition at the time of writing. However, it’s not that easy to change the name, as the whole process has to go through the government of Spain. If the name change happens, it will be one of the biggest tributes Rafael Nadal will ever receive.

Meanwhile, Rafa had to stay one extra day in Australia, as his flight got canceled at the last moment. As a result, the Spaniard will reach home one day later.

Is Nadal the greatest of all time?

There is only one question circling around the heads of many experts and fans after Rafael Nadal won his 21st Grand Slam title. Is Rafa the greatest of all time? It’s difficult to answer at the moment, as Nadal is still playing, so are Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

However, one thing no one can take away from Nadal is the fact he is now the owner of most Grand Slam singles titles. Also, Rafa is still one of the best players on the clay court and the next Grand Slam is the French Open tournament. If Djokovic doesn’t play, Rafa automatically becomes the favorite to win the French Open.

In terms of numbers, Rafa is the greats tennis player of all time at the moment. But it will be interesting to see how many Grand Slams the Big Three will retire with. Maybe then we will have this discussion again.
