Today, there were many sporting events happening in the world simultaneously. In the tennis world, today was the start of the only clay-court Grand Slam, the French Open. At the same time, the main race of the Spanish Grand Prix took place in Barcelona. Meanwhile, former Argentine tennis player Juan Martin del Potro probably had more interest in the F1 race than the French Open. Earlier, he posted about it on his social media, as he was really into the race.

Juan Martin del Potro closely watches the F1 race
The hype was definitely real for the sixth Formula One race of the season in Barcelona, as many players had their eyes on the race. 2009 US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro was also one of them, as it seemed like he was observing the whole match with attention. Earlier, he made a tweet about an incident from the match where he praised the standard of the race.
“What race #F1. I hope that @SChecoPerez does not give up the position to @Max33Verstappen and that they fight for P1,” del Potro tweeted.
Que carrera 😱 #F1
Espero que @SChecoPerez no lo ceda la posición a @Max33Verstappen y que peleen por P1. 🏎— Juan M. del Potro (@delpotrojuan) May 22, 2022
Notably, the Argentine tennis player was probably referring to the incident when Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc had to retire from the race on lap 27 due to a power issue. That incident opened the gate for the Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who was just behind Leclerc in the driver’s championship. Meanwhile, another Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, took the lead on lap 31 after passing George Russell. Later, Perez pitted, which gave the lead to Verstappen, and he won the race in the end.

Del Potro may find the ending of the race a bit disappointing as the two Red Bull drivers didn’t race for the no.1 spot, which he wished for earlier.
