Mindy Kaling on the role of John McEnroe in ‘Never Have I Ever’

The creator of the show was talking in an interview about the role of McEnroe. Kaling said, “We wanted the character to have a voice-over narration, and we thought long and hard about her personality.” The creator wanted the narration from a person with similar traits to the main character of the show.

She found common traits between the two and said, “The thing character and John McEnroe both have in common is one- an extreme sense of justice and also hot-headedness.

Furthermore, she added, “They both have tempers. We thought it made a kind of poignant link because her father who passed away was a huge McEnroe fan and had instilled that in his daughter.” Moreover, Kaling complimented McEnroe’s sense of humor.
