Recently, Emma Raducanu and Aryna Sabalenka’s former coach Smitry Tursunov were present in a conversation with Essentially Sports. He was questioned on his remark about Nadal’s problematic comeback and whether he will have to take his retirement due to improper form.

In his response, Dmitry Tursunov commented- “I think it’s more like Andy Murray type of slag. Yeah, and I feel it like for a couple of reasons. I feel again it comes down to their game styles. So, their game styles requires a lot of energy, especially with Rafa like he, every shot he goes for is like a full power. So in some ways it’s an inefficient type of game.

He further added: “But who am I to judge right? But if Roger had a way to shorten the points, rafa I feel in order to survive that is probably is not able to sustain that, you know its Novak who can sustain that type of game. Rafa cannot sustain it anymore.”

Tursunov brought both Federer’s and Djokovic’s references to express that Nadal might not have a great comeback before retirement. Tursunov pointed out Nadal’s recent game styles, which focus a lot more on strength and forceful power. Tursunov ended his statement by saying- “He has to make some changes to shorten up the rally to find a way to spend not as much energy per point, In order to have a legitimate chance.

Dmitry Tursunov once praised the Spaniard tennis legend’s extraordinary talent in the sport

In 2022, Tursunov revealed in an interview that he had not seen a player like Rafael Nadal, who is a full package. This famous coach termed Nadal a combination of talent, passion, and hard work: “Very few combinations are like Rafa where it’s a hard worker and a passionate person, and also someone quite talented,”

Tursunov explained that despite qualities, many tennis players are refusing to improve their styles. He said, “It’s a question to each individual player: why is their priority not to improve?… You have to give up something: some players are willing to give up relationships or spend all their money on improving their tennis, but some players aren’t willing to do that.” Tursunov’s comment represented that this Russian former ATP pro is an admirer of Nadal.
