Today’s gentlemen’s singles final will decide who will take home the coveted Wimbledon trophy home. Both Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are in stupendous form, dispatching their respective semifinal opponents in straight sets. Alcaraz will be looking to seek revenge for the loss that he endured at the French Open this year, and Djokovic will look to add another Wimbledon trophy to his trophy cabinet, equalling Roger Federer’s 8 Wimbledon titles.

Before the enticing title clash, the legendary tennis player Mats Wilander asked Alcaraz who is the favorite in their upcoming clash. Alcaraz, as always, was humble in his answer.

Novak Djokovic is the favorite, says Alcaraz

Alcaraz has been in red-hot form coming to the all-important Wimbledon final. While many thought the match against Daniil Medvedev would be a tight neck-to-neck affair, Alcaraz made it look so easy. While this is the case with Alcaraz, his opponent Djokovic is no different either.

He has been in the form of his life, not losing a single grand slam match this year, despite being 36 years of age. Alcaraz also acknowledged how superior Djokovic’s stats and experience were in SW19.

?Everybody knows [Novak] Djokovic is the main favourite, myself as well,? Alcaraz told Mats Wilander. ?I know he?s the favourite, he?s won the last four Wimbledons, [he?s] coming for the fifth in a row, 44 matches unbeaten here in Wimbledon, it?s something crazy.?

The clash of the two titans promises to be a match of ages, unlike their Roland Garros match that proved to be a disappointment.

What happened when they met last time?

In their highly anticipated match last time, the match was pretty competitive until Alcaraz faced some physical issues due to some cramps in the leg. After losing the match, he said, nervousness played a big role in the cramps. Though he had beaten Djokovic previously, he couldn’t handle the pressure of playing him on a grand slam, that too in one of the most physically demanding tournaments in the sport.

Thus, despite winning the second set, he was hammered with breadsticks in the third and the fourth set and Djokovic ended up winning the match quite easily. Alcaraz would be yearning to exact revenge for that painful loss.

Alcaraz says, ?I want to win Wimbledon one day but it would be more special if I beat Novak in the final. It?s going to be a really emotional moment for me. This is something I looked for since the draw came out to play a final with him and I?m going to enjoy.?

Thus, tennis fans would be hoping it won’t be a repeat of the Roland Garros semifinal.

While we heard it straight from the horse’s own mouth about Djokovic being the clear favorite, Alcaraz can’t be underestimated, either. As he has proven in the past, he can beat the best of the best. He had been known as an expert only in slower courts, but his quick adaptation to grass has surprised everyone and his rivals were certainly taken aback.
