Rising star Felix Auger-Aliassime recently advanced to the pre-quarters of the Cincinnati Open 2021. Facing Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the round of 32, the Canadian made an incredible comeback after losing the first set in the tie-breaker. The final scoreline of the match was 6(5)-7(7), 6-3, 6-4.
In the post-match press conference, Felix Auger-Aliassime encountered a strange yet tough question. He was asked what is the significance of the Cincinnati Masters for him, especially when the US Open 2021 is about two weeks away. Interestingly, the Canadian gave a pretty good response.
“I mean, of course it’s an important event too. I don’t see it as like, Oh, I’m preparing for the US Open,” said Felix.

Felix revealed that all his attention is on the Cincinnati Masters right now and he is not at all thinking about the US Open 2021. He stated that the Masters event is a really important tournament for him.

Felix took the example of World No.1 Novak Djokovic and highlighted that the US Open 2021 holds a different value to both of them.

Djoker will be chasing the Calendar Slam and thus, his priority is to win the US Open 2021. On the other hand, Felix is currently just 21 and is yet to win an ATP title. Therefore, every single tournament is important for him- be it a Masters event or a Grand Slam.
“In Djokovic’s case when he’s trying to achieve what he’s trying to achieve, maybe, but at my age and my point of my career, every tournament is important,” added the Canadian player.
