What is Nick Kyrgios more popular for? Flamboyant tennis or his never-ending controversial remarks on fellow tennis stars? Kyrgios never fails to put his name in the headlines. Talking about controversies, well, the Aussie has been one the biggest critics of Jannik Sinner since day 1 of this doping controversy. Previously we heard him say, “Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned,” about Sinner’s doping case. After that, he even asked for a 2-year ban for the Italian. So, considering these controversial comments, fans have been wanting to see them face-to-face for a long time now. Although there was a chance for this at the 2024 US Open, Kyrgios didn’t take that chance, but why?

We saw Nick Kyrgios doing a few rounds of on-court interviews with his peers during the US Open. Sinner had a tremendous run in NY this year, so everyone wanted to see the reaction of both these players when they faced each other during a possible on-court interview. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and later on, when asked how he would feel being interviewed by Kyrgios, the Italian said, “If that would (happen)… I don’t know? (laughing). I don’t want to respond on what he said. Everyone is free to say everything, so it’s okay.

He further added, “If that is the case (that he interviews me), let’s see. It’s going to be different, for sure, but I don’t know. (smiling). I don’t know what to say. Maybe I say something now, and then the reaction is going to be something else because you live in this moment.” Now months after that epic tournament where Jannik Sinner won his second major title, Nick Kyrgios reveals why he didn’t interview Sinner during the US Open. Recently renowned tennis journalist Scott Barclay highlighted Kyrgios’ unpleasant comment about Casper Ruud.

He was quite surprised to see them share a few moments of camaraderie during the World Tennis League, especially after knowing Nick Kyrgios as a harsh critic of Casper Ruud. Barclay wrote, “Kyrgios is 100% one of those guys who trash talks someone online and then sees them in person and immediately backs down.” Then after seeing this post, a fan wrote, “100% true, we saw it at the US open when he could have interviewed Sinner more than once but he never did because he is a coward.” After that, we saw Nick Kyrgio quickly jumping in to defend himself, saying, “No espn told me not to do it lol. But continue to have zero idea about anything.”

With the 2025 season knocking at the doors, it’ll be interesting to see if the fans get the chance to see them take on each other right at the start of the season. Nick Kyrgios is expected to return to tour-level competition at the Brisbane International which kickstarts on December 29th. Talking about the excitement among the fans to witness the duel between Kyrgios and Sinner, just a few days ago, the Aussie made his feelings known about a possible demand for a boxing bout with the Italian.

A fan shared an AI-generated image of Jannik Sinner and Nick Kyrgios in a boxing ring and wrote, “I would sacrifice a kidney to make this happen.” After seeing this post, Kyrgios commented, “Hahaha in the ring? What y’all smoking.” Don’t know if we’d see them in the ring or not, but there is a possibility of seeing them at the Rod Laver Arena in the next month. What does Kyrgios think about a possible faceoff with Sinner at the 2025 AO?

Nick Kyrgios reveals what he’d do if he gets the chance to face Jannik Sinner at the 2025 AO

Nick Kyrgios has faced Jannik Sinner only once in his career so far. It was in the R16 of the 2022 Miami Open and Sinner defeated him by 7-6(3),6-3 in that match. The two were also supposed to meet at the R16 of the Indian Wells Masters, but Sinner had to withdraw from the fixture due to an illness. Nick Kyrgios is already quite aware of the challenges he could face from both Sinner and Alcaraz on his return to the Tour.

Recently, the Aussie star was heard saying, “There’s no doubt that Sinner, Alcaraz — these guys are the best in the world right now, hands down. But that doesn’t mean I won’t believe in myself. I’ll always back myself and do everything I can to compete.” What does Nick Kyrgios plan to do if he plays Jannik Sinner at the AO?

In reply to this question, he said, “I just want to go out there and I really want to play Sinner. I thought about this [the game plan]. If I played him in the Australian Open, I would just get every single person in the crowd to get on him. I would just turn it into an absolute riot. All respect would go out the window and I would just do anything to win.” He further added, “If I draw Sinner in the Australian Open third round everyone will watch because it’s contrasting personalities, we don’t like each other and I think it’s healthy in sport.
