Federer has signed up for the ESPN Films’ 30 for 30 documentary about the former tennis player Michael Chang. He will feature as an interview subject in the story of the youngest man in history to win a singles Grand Slam. The ‘American Son’ will entail Chang’s rise in tennis and his family’s immigration story, which shaped his future.
Further, the New Yorker and New York Times writer Jay Caspian Kang will make his directorial debut with this documentary. The Emmy-nominated correspondent’s project will circle around the 17-year-old Chang’s 1989 French Open win. Also, it will focus on his unforgettable upset of top-ranked Ivan Lendl as well. A match that unfolded in the shadow of the Tiananmen Square massacre in China.
