Nothing quite compares to that feeling of winning the first grand slam of one’s career. When Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner lifted the Australian Open trophy at Rod Laver Arena, the only thing one could see on his face was a happy grin. However, as he pointed out during his speech, this was not his win alone but of everyone who supported him and was with him throughout this journey. Of course, his family was a part of it.

Sharing how it was the freedom his parents gave him that got Sinner to try tennis among other things, the young Italian paid tribute to his family. Getting an emotional reaction from his dad, Johann Sinner was not surprised to hear Jannik’s words.

In an interview, Jannik Sinner’s dad shared how the words of his son about him and his wife after lifting the trophy turned him emotional but also how he expected nothing less of him. Sinner had spoken highly of his parents in his AO victory speech, highlighting how they played a very important role in his success. He even hoped that everyone would get parents like his!

To which Sinner’s dad Johann responded, “He was like that, already good at all sports as he is good at his job. Was I surprised by his words, those words about us? That’s the way he is, he learned early on about work culture, commitment, and humility.”

It can be felt from his words that they were truly touched by this sweet gesture of Sinner, who must have been feeling overwhelmed with emotions at his first Grand Slam victory. While the Sinner family is closely bonded, getting to this level was not easy for the 22-year-old, who had to live away from his parents.
