Roger Federer has continued to captivate the world with his exceptional gameplay. His recent documentary, “FEDERER: Twelve Final Days,” has mesmerized fans and the tennis community alike, just as his grandeur on the court always has. Amidst the outpouring of praise for the documentary, one comment stands out above the rest, a heartfelt tribute from one of Federer’s dearest friends and fiercest rivals, Rafael Nadal.

Taking to his Instagram Story on Friday, Rafael Nadal shared a picture of his long-time on-court rival Roger Federer and congratulated him on the documentary. Sharing a picture of himself and the Swiss Maestro, Rafa wrote, “Congratulations Roger my friend. This was a weekend I will never forget. I can’t wait to watch Twelve Final Days.” The documentary was aired on Amazon Prime Video on June 20th. Roger Federer was quick to reshare the story. “Thanks for your support pal. A weekend that we will never forget🙌🏻,” he added. Meanwhile, the world has not forgotten the Rafa-Federer bond.

There was not a single dry eye at the main stadium when Roger Federer bid farewell to the sport in 2022. It can be common for fans to shed tears on the retirement of their favorite player. But what caught the attention was Federer’s fierce opponent Rafael Nadal who was also seen crying inconsolably. The two were later seen walking together and talking to each other. The ‘King of Clay,’ had in fact admitted that a “part of his life left” with Roger Federer when his great rival retired from tennis. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal’s role was equally emotional for Federer in his film.

The documentary not only reflects his on-court achievements but also the things he went through off the court. However, when asked about what can be the most emotional part of the film, the 43-year-old said it would be the speech of Rafael Nadal. “Probably Mirka and Rafa’s speeches.” While Federer has retired from the sport, his admiration for Nadal is such that he can even plan to come out of his retirement.

The Swiss Maestro played the last match of his career alongside Rafael Nadal on the same team. While the career that spanned over 24 years saw immense enthusiasm from the fans, what many want to relive is the partnership of Nadal and Federer.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Federer was asked about the possibility of partnering with Nadal again in doubles at the Laver Cup. While he said that it would be unlikely, he gave a new hope to the fans. “I don’t think we’ll play doubles together at Laver. But if he asks me, I’ll be there.”

For the unversed, Federer had called up Rafa ahead of the 2022 Laver Cup and asked him to not schedule anything else. “I had to call him up and tell him ‘Hey Rafa, just before you make any other plans, I would love you to be at the Laver Cup and play maybe one last doubles with me. It would be amazing. Unfortunately, my knee is not good anymore and I think, it’s the end, you know?’”
