Novak Djokovic is accustomed to receiving praises of the highest order. His on-court exploits and shot-making have also been compared to that of former legends of the game. For instance, we have seen experts draw parallels between Djokovic’s and Andre Agassi’s backhands. However, a current ATP player has given those comparisons a new dynamic by bringing Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as well into the picture.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is set to lock horns with Novak Djokovic in the second round of Cincinnati Masters. The 24-year-old had to face The Serbinator at the Roland Garros, not too long ago. Ahead of his next meeting against Djokovic, Fokina acknowledged his greatness.

Fokina does know a thing or two about facing Djokovic, as they have faced each other thrice already. He even cruised past the Serb in their Monte Carlo meeting last year. However, the 2023 French Open clash was some sort of a lesson for the Spaniard. He was in awe of Djokovic and came up with heaps of praise for his opponent.
According to the ATP Tour, Fokina said, “He has everything of Rafa and Federer. His body is so elastic and he can be very, very solid and he has the weapons to push you to make errors. Then he has winners. He’s very good serving,”. The 24-year-old believes that Djokovic has some of the best weapons of Nadal and Federer, which makes him an almost unbeatable opponent.
Fokina also weighed in on Djokovic’s presence of mind. “The key of his is that he sees the match very good“, said the World No. 23. Fokina also happens to be one of the more difficult matchups for Djokovic. Their previous encounters have been pretty close.
Fokina vs Djokovic preview
Currently, Djokovic leads the head-to-head 2-1 against Fokina. The last time they met, Djokovic edged past the Spaniard in straight sets, albeit very close ones, including two tiebreakers. This is the first time they are set to meet on a hard court. Skipping the Canadian Open has meant that Djokovic hasn’t been able to step on his beloved cement courts since February. Fokina may be able to exploit a rather stiff Novak and turn it into a very close encounter. However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion will never go down easy.
Prediction: Djokovic in 3 sets. Who do you think will win in tonight’s Cincinnati clash? Let us know in the comments.
