The American tennis legend, John McEnroe has often been lavishly praised by the entire tennis community ever since he took up a commentator and analyst role. However, the 7-time singles Grand Slam champion’s recent remarks on a Chinese tennis player have received flak from a slew of fans. The ATP star, Shang Juncheng, also known as Jerry, has made his nation proud as he became the first male player from his country to win an Australian Open main-draw singles match.

However, McEnroe’s unprofessional remarks have reportedly poked fun at the 17-year-old player. The former American tennis player made a “Tom & Jerry” comment about him considering his nickname ‘Jerry’. Those comments have not gone down well with the tennis community as they slammed the American commentator.

The Chinese tennis player, Shang Juncheng has amused the entire tennis community with his remarkable performances at the qualifying matches of the Australian Open. The 17-year-old player further made an impressive start to the tournament as he defeated the German tennis player, Oscar Otte in the first-round match. However, he was later knocked out of the Grand Slam event by the American player, Frances Tiafoe.

It is now being reported that the American tennis legend, John McEnroe poked fun at him with his remarks. Notably, the news came out stating, “What is this Chinese guy’s name? Jerry? How did they come up with Jerry? Is he the only guy from China named Jerry? Did his parents watch Tom and Jerry?” – John McEnroe on ESPN on ’21 @VeroFutures champion Jerry Shang, the first Chinese man to win a main draw major singles match”

The entire tennis community was enraged by those comments about the Chinese ATP player. A slew of fans further slammed McEnroe for making a “Tom & Jerry comment” on Juncheng.

Other fans criticized the former tennis player for making fun of someone’s nickname.

On the same note, yet another fan was not happy with the comments made and was of the opinion McEnroe did not know how to speak in public.

Further, other fans reacted in a similar way.

Thus, several social media users were unhappy.
