Chris Eubanks is one player who surprised the tennis world this year. The American star achieved a top 10 victory to go as far as the Quarterfinal of the Wimbledon. Eubanks climbed up the ATP ladder by many steps this year and seems to be in an enhanced mental state. Many wondered how he found the motivation to play in such a manner this far into his career. He recently revealed one ritual of his that helped him win this year.

Along with his pre-match rituals, Eubanks explained the shift in his mindset earlier this year, which helped him focus on tennis. He always used to think about the future, but he started taking the sport as it came to him, starting with a pre-match activity.

Sports stars across various sports have a ritual they indulge in to pump themselves up for games. Chris Eubanks is no different than any other sports star in this regard. He recently appeared on the ‘Black Spins Global’ podcast and talked about various moments of his season. When asked by the host his favorite song to listen to before the match, Eubanks said, “Jimmy Cooks” by Drake.

He further explained, “I listened to that before almost every single match this year. For some reason. That was just the one. I usually go through phases. I’ll select different songs. But that was my one for this year. For some reason. I don’t know why.

Songs have the power to give a motivational boost to any individual and help them perform better, and Eubanks utilizes them to the fullest. Eubanks found a shift in his tennis this year, which didn’t only happen because of Drake’s songs.

The paradigm mentality shift for Eubanks 

In a Tennis channel segment, Eubanks explained how he became a much better player this season. Before playing the grand slam, Eubanks found it difficult to simply enter the top 100. He was obsessed with entering the exclusive list, and as he struggled, he started thinking about the matches that would get him inside the 100.

Then, in the Miami Open, Eubanks let go of the thought and focused on the matches as they came. Sure enough, he found himself in the top 100 and would go on to climb to rank 29. He will end the year at the rank and is only aiming to climb even higher next year. Will he manage the top 20 by the time Wimbledon rolls around?
