“Don’t Try to Be Cocky”: Daniil Medvedev Opens up on the Bizzare Non-Celebration After ATP Finals Victory

World No.4 Daniil Medvedev could not have a better ending to his 2020 tennis season. After winning the Rolex Paris Masters 2020, the Russian went on to win the ATP Finals 2020 title. He did so after making a phenomenal comeback against the man in form Dominic Thiem in the finals.

It was Medvedev’s maiden ATP Finals title. However, he did not celebrate as if he had done something really big after beating Thiem. Although he defeated all the top three players in the world right now, he appeared pretty cool, calm, and composed.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray sarcastically asked Medvedev why he didn’t celebrate. Was it so easy for him that he didn’t give a ‘sh*t about it’?

“Talking about me, it started last year at the US Open where I had some problems with the crowd… I was like I know how to keep my emotions, not all the time, I know how to control them. I hope that I have many more titles to come and I’m going to be special,” said a cheerful Medvedev.

One often watches players crying or falling with their limbs spread wide apart after winning a title. Therefore, it was definitely not less than a shock when fans including Murray saw Daniil Medvedev doing something out of the box.

“I don’t try to be cocky or anything”- Daniil Medvedev

Continuing his answer, Medvedev even said that when the broadcasters showed his celebration, it was something that everyone would laugh on.

“They have shown the 11 winners of these Finals. Everybody was lying on the ground, crying and screaming, and then when they show my celebration just shaking hands with him because showing just walking would be stupid,” added the ATP Finals 2020 winner laughing hilariously.

Although he was a little embarrassed, Medvedev admitted that he didn’t seem to look arrogant at all. He ended by quoting that it was just his unique style of celebrating.

“It’s not in any way cocky. I don’t try to be cocky or anything. But, yeah, just my style that I will keep for my career probably,” concluded Medvedev.

Fans are certainly having huge expectations from Medvedev. They hope to see his peculiar celebrations after he wins his maiden Grand Slam title soon.
