Off the court, he married renowned actress Tatum O’Neal in 1986 and they had three kids together. The second son of John McEnroe talked about not seeing eye to eye with his father
In an interview back in 2016, Sean revealed that he suffered a horrible injury while swinging from a tree in Ireland. “I broke my sternum, clavicle and rib,“ Sean said.
Later, McEnroe’s son revealed that he had to pay for his own surgery, which left him in debt. Notably, he did not want to take help from his family, as he wanted to make it on his own. Speaking about relationship with his father, Sean’s mother, Tatum O’Neal said, “Sean does not speak to his father. Nor am I aware if his father speaks to him.”
Later, Sean also talked about his relationship with his father, as he said, “My dad and I don’t necessarily see eye-to-eye on… the way I should live my life.“
Notably, last year, Sean revealed that he secretly married his girlfriend and kept it private from pretty much everyone.
McEnroe’s infamous on-court outburst
The legendary American player was renowned for his on-court antics during his playing days. However, one incident lives long in the memory of almost every tennis fan. In the first round of the Wimbledon Championships in 1981, McEnroe was playing against Tom Gullikson. During that match, one of McEnroe’s shots touched the line, but a line judge called it out. Then, he went toward the chair umpire and said, “You cannot be serious!”

The American star was pointing out that the chalk on the line flew up after the ball touched the line. However, the chair umpire did not move from his decision. Moreover, the chair umpire awarded a point to his opponent after McEnroe said, “You guys are the absolute pits of the world.”

Later in 2002, McEnroe published his autobiography and named it ‘You Cannot Be Serious’, after quote became infamous in the tennis world. Moreover, this incident at Wimbledon has remained one of the top moments in the history of the sport.
