When Rafael Nadal made his comeback in the exhibition event at Abu Dhabi late last year, no one predicted that he would go on to clinch the Australian Open. But, you can never write off great champions like Nadal, who used all of his experience to overcome youngsters like Denis Shapovalov, Matteo Berrettini, and Daniil Medvedev.
Amidst the celebrations of his triumph, his spokesperson revealed that the Australian Open had left Nadal ‘destroyed’. Usually, it takes time for any athlete to recuperate after a major event and it’s certainly understandable why that would be the case for Rafa.

Rafael Nadal is unsure of his schedule after a brutal Australian Open run
Considering the fact that Nadal was uncertain of his participation in Melbourne and how he continued to march all the way to the crown, it’s imperative that he takes care before making a comeback on the ATP tour.
After the victory, Nadal was asked about his future at the ‘Happy Slam’. To this, he said, “I don’t know. I didn’t know I was able to play the Australian Open this year, and I don’t know what can happen in the future.”

Looking at the future, the 21-time major champion is due to play Acapulco later this month and the hard-court event at Indian Wells was also part of his schedule after the Australian Open. However, Nadal’s participation in both these tournaments isn’t yet confirmed.
Nadal likes to stay in the present and savor the Australian Open triumph

During the interview, the Spaniard also talked about how he likes to stay in the present without thinking too much about what the future has in store.
“I just want to enjoy the moment and keep going and try to enjoy this beautiful sport. I was not able to do it often these last two years, so I will love to try to play a bit more this year. I think I just stay more in the moment without thinking so far in front.”
It will not be possible for Rafael Nadal to continue to play every tournament on the ATP tour going forward, but he seems determined to take part in as many events as possible. The Spaniard wants to make the most out of what’s left of his playing career as the French Open dreams fly high after the brilliant triumph in Australia.
