It was an emotional moment for the 42-year-old during the previous season’s Laver Cup where he played his farewell match. Although many would have assumed the former tennis star would be missing the game, his remarks suggest otherwise. While comparing the idea of retirement to marriage, Federer recently opened up about how he is enjoying his off-court journey.

He said, “I feel like retirement is a bit like getting married. When you get married, you think things haven’t changed, but in fact everything has… When it was all over, I felt so relieved. Of course, it’s also a pity not being able to return to the tour and not being able to see fans and friends from all over the world as regularly as before.”

The Swiss tennis legend further asserted that he is quite glad that he doesn’t have to gear up for any competitive matchup. Federer added, “But it feels good when I wake up and don’t have to walk onto the court with physical pain and play a game I’m not ready for.”

The 20-time singles Grand Slam champion’s recent disclosures have made it clear that he is enjoying his post-retirement journey. However, the ATP icon recently picked up his racket once again, albeit, for his business duties.
