Explaining the reason behind playing just the Laver Cup and the Swiss Indoors this year, the former World No. 1 said, “After Basel, the season is over anyway. It’s important for me to get fit again so that I can train fully. Once I’ve done that, I can choose how many tournaments I play and where. The Laver Cup is a good start, I don’t have to play five matches in six days.?

Federer’s struggle with his knee has been a serious affair. Having had three procedures done on his knee, the Swiss legend is making sure to be at his peak physically before playing on the tour.

Going further in the conversation, Federer opened up about whether he plans to play the 2023 season if physically fit. He said, ?Yes, definitely. How and where, I don’t know yet. But that would be the idea. Definitely.”

While Federer’s 2023 season depends on his knee condition, his comeback at the Laver Cup and the Swiss Indoors is by far one of the most anticipated events of 2022.
