John McEnroe married his current wife Patty Smyth in 1997 after coming out from a bitter marriage. The 63-year-old is happily married and has often credited his wife for what he achieved in his career.

“I ended up meeting my wife patty, now my present wife, and she did something that I think was all you could ask of a partner is allowing that person to flourish and be the person he wants to be like be himself. She let me be me and I think it doesn’t happen that often in a relationship for whatever reasons. But that’s the key to success in a way,” he said.

“I believe that I try to be honest in life. When I do commentary, it’s obviously a different form of honesty. I mean, you talking about… you are being the backseat driver,” he said.
