‘Do You Like, Still Sport?’- Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s Awkward Interaction With John McEnroe on the Sets of Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever

John McEnroe has an image of an aggressive player who did not leave his opponents without a challenge on the court. His on-court debacles with the chair umpires and players and his raw emotions earned him the name, ‘Super Brat’.

But it looks like he is not the same around Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, the starring actress of the hit Netflix TV series, ‘Never Have I Ever’. The starring actress talked about how she did not know him earlier and how he became friends with her.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan did not know who John McEnroe was

The starring actress of the series confessed that she did not know who McEnroe was on the Jimmy Fallon show. The seven-time grand slam champion is doing the voiceover of the narrator who is the protagonist of the show. The actress talked about the importance of the layer in the show.

She said, “John McEnroe is very important to Mindy and I think it’s a great match made in heaven.” Adding to that she said, “I think he is important to everyone. He’s important to me now that I know who he is.” The player confessed she did not who he was initially.

In her defense, she said, “I didn’t know. I’m not a sports kind of gal.” She gave him the designation of being a legend but in a new field. She said, “He’s a legend. I know him as a narrating legend, not necessarily tennis.” 

How did McEnroe, and Ramakrishnan become friends?

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan went on to narrate a story. She said, “On set when I met him. I was like, “Hey, do you like still sport?” She was trying to be friends with the former player. She said, “I’m just trying to make conversation with friends. He was like, Yeah and I was like cool.” 

Ramakrishnan used her jolly attitude to find common ground between them and said, “And then I asked him if he wanted to go to crafty and get cookies. He said, Yeah.” In the end, they both ended up befriending each other.

McEnroe established himself as one of the most aggressive players on the court, however, along with an active tennis commentator. Along with that, he has apparently tested grounds in TV series too, where everyone is loving his work and presence.
