However, after a two-decade-long journey on the ATP Tour, the American tennis star has decided to put down his racket. And like his compatriot Serena Williams, it was in his home Grand Slam event that Sock recently played his farewell match.
The former ATP singles world No. 8 player’s retirement has caused an out-pour of emotions throughout the tennis community. Even the Aussie tennis star, Nick Kyrgios recently penned a heartfelt message for his former doubles partner and “best friend” in the men’s circuit.
Nick Kyrgios gets overwhelmed with emotions after Jack Sock’s farewell match

The American tennis star recently concluded his doubles and farewell campaign at his home Grand Slam event in New York. Jack Sock teamed up with his compatriot, John Isner, at the men’s doubles event, where they were knocked out after the first-round match. Later, the ATP player also paired up with his female counterpart, Coco Gauff, for the mixed doubles event of the US Open.
However, the American duo was thumped by their compatriots, Denis Kudla and Alycia Parks, in straight sets, (2-6, 6-7). Their first-round defeat also marked the farewell event for Sock, who received emotional tributes from the entire tennis community, including his former doubles partner, Nick Kyrgios.
On his Instagram account, the Aussie shared pictures of himself alongside his “best friend,” Sock, and further penned a heartfelt message in the caption. Kyrgios wrote, “to someone that I call one of my best friends, one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen up close….”

He added, “To someone that has seen some of my darkest days but also some of my best, enjoy your retirement sizz, I know you’ll have a lot going on, but from me…nothing but the best of luck with everything moving forward”.
The ‘bad boy of tennis’ has clearly showcased his admiration and respect for his former doubles partner, with whom he once marked a remarkable triumph on the court.

Kyrgios and Sock’s incredible victory at a hard-court event
During their 7-year-long partnership, the American tennis star teamed up with Kyrgios in various tournaments. However, it was their participation in the Citi Open that turned out to be triumphant as they clinched the men’s doubles title. In the championship match of the ATP 500 event, the duo locked horns with Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek. With a spectacular display of their game on the outdoor hard court, Kyrgios and Sock managed to clinch victory in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
