Roger Federer bid the sport an emotional farewell last year. Former coach of Novak Djokovic, Boris Becker recently expressed his views on their departure and the upcoming wave of tennis.

A tennis legend who observed the sport closely even after retiring has given his verdict on the changed dynamics of the sport after Federer and Nadal.

The German tennis legend himself bagged six Grand Slam titles during his career. So, he knows what 20 and 22 Grand Slam titles hold for the tennis realm. However, he also feels that tennis has continued to grow. Instead of facing a setback, every new wave of tennis has brought better results.

In a recent fan interaction, a fan asked if tennis has lost its appeal without Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Becker gave a very evaluated answer on his Instagram story. He started with, “Tennis will never be the same without Roger/Rafa.”

However, he also reminded his followers of the time when tennis enthusiasts said the same thing but about different players. He added, “But the same was said after Borg/Mac, Edberg/Lendl/Becker, Sampras/Agassi, and so on...” Concluding with a verdict, he stated, “I guess it’s called evolution.” 

ATP has undoubtedly seen the growth of one of the most competitive tennis players of all time. And even during the dominance of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, we saw the rise of Novak Djokovic.

Federer lauds the new era of tennis players

The 20-time Grand Slam champion left everyone in an emotional frenzy after he bid farewell to the sport. However, he has left an astounding legacy behind which has become an inspiration for the young players.

Recently, as the Swiss Maestro celebrated the 30-year anniversary of the Halle Open, he looked at the evolving generation of tennis players. Commending the ever-improving quality of the sport, he lauded the challenge they have been putting on the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
