After his split with Croatian coach Goran Ivanišević, Novak Djokovic has now joined hands with his compatriot, Nenad Zimonjić. He is also accompanying the current number-one player during his campaign at the ongoing Monte Carlo Masters. However, Djokovic and Zimonjić’s connection goes way beyond the racket game, as witnessed by a recent viral picture showing the Serbian coach attending the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion’s wedding seven years ago.

A Twitter user recently brought to light a picture of Nenad Zimonjic holding his wife Mina’s hand as the couple attended Djokovic and Jelena’s wedding in 2014. The social media post stated, “Nenad #Zimonjic and his wife Mina attend Novak #Djokovic’s wedding.” The ATP superstar tied the knot with his partner a week after his second triumph at the 2014 Wimbledon Championship.

The wedding guests were gathered in Sveti Stefan, a small coastal town in Montenegro, where a beautiful ceremony took place outdoors. It is no surprise that Zimonjic was also there in Montenegro, as the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion regards him as his ‘brother’ and ‘mentor,’ according to his recent revelations during the clay court season.

“He was like a mentor, a big brother”- Novak Djokovic on his brotherly bond with Nenad Zimonjic

After parting ways with Ivanišević, the Serbian player recently opened up about how he is now on ‘a trial period’ with his compatriot. Speaking about their connection, the 36-year-old player revealed that they have been friends for a long time, as Zimonjić was also his Davis Cup captain. In a recent interview, Djokovic also said, “ He always helped me, he was like a mentor, a big brother. And we kept this relationship. He was in Belgrade when I started my preparation on clay.”

While revealing how he persuaded Zimonjić to join his coaching team for the ongoing clay court tournament, the Serb said, “I asked him if there was a chance he would be present for this session. He said yes. I asked him if he could come to Monaco, and he said yes. We are there. It’s based on our old relationship. We’ll see where this takes us. We’ll talk about it again at the end of this tournament.”
