Taylor Fritz put on a fantastic display as he defeated the 2023 Australian Open finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek player showed signs of a comeback in the second set, but Fritz shut him down quickly. After the match, he was made aware of Djokovic’s comments, who was confident about winning the quarterfinal bout if he continued playing at his current level.

In reply, the American said, “I mean, if I beat someone eight times in a row, I’d be pretty confident playing them, too, I’d have to say. I can’t really fault him for that.” He further said, “I think the conditions here are definitely better for me than maybe US Open or Cincinnati. I mean, to be honest, the only decent match I’ve played against him in our last couple meetings was in Turin at the end of ’22.”

However, he still has some confidence in his abilities. “In that match I served for the second set. It was pretty close. Since then when I’ve played him, I’ve played pretty poor, I think. I think that I have a lot more level to bring than I’ve previously brought against him. Hopefully I can play another match like today.”

Fritz is sure to be at the top of the world after beating number 7 in round 4. Despite struggling for the past few months, he has a chance at showing the tennis circuit why he belongs in the top 10. Fritz will face Djokovic on January 24th , giving him enough time to recover and make a strategy.
