When it comes to the major highlights of the year 2023, Novak Djokovic certainly produced one of them. Despite being 36, the Serbian sensation has gone ahead to showcase one of the best performances of his lifetime after he bagged 3 grand slams in the year while managing to maintain the top spot in the ATP rankings. That being said, the longevity of the Serbian legend has certainly come into question.

Putting that to bed, he suggested that he has managed to keep his body in good form and is planning to play even after he turns 40. He gave the example of famous NFL player Tom Brady who did the exact same. However, as soon as his comment about ending his playing career went viral, fans were quick to spark speculations. They did not seem to go in line with the Djoker’s plans.

While Novak Djokovic suggested playing well beyond 40, some fans did not seem to fall in line with the Serbian. One fan came ahead and suggested that it would not be possible for him to play beyond 40 and also added that by the time he turns 38-39, he would not be able to win any title.

Another fan came in and suggested that Tom Brady could have retired early but his ego did not let him. He also added that Djokovic still has a chance to go out at the top, but it is doubtful. “Tom Brady could have retired at his peak but his ego wouldn’t let him. Djokovic still has a chance to go out on top. I doubt he will,” said the fan.

This fan came in and suggested that, unlike the NFL, tennis is a solo sport that requires a lot of endurance. He then added that in the upcoming years, grand slams will get more difficult which gives Djokovic hardly 2 more years to outshine.

This fan came ahead and took a cheeky dig at Djokovic while suggesting that as long as there is anything that can easily help Djokovic win like magic potions, useless opponents, and others, he could make it. “As long as there is the Magic Potion, fixed draws & useless opponents…Nole will continue to Roll,” said the fan.

Last but not least, this fan suggested that everyone makes plans. However, the uncertainty of life can never be predicted. “Everybody makes plans..and then life happens,” said the fan.

Thus, these were some comments that fans made. While Novak Djokovic looks all set to emulate the likes of Tom Brady and follow in his footsteps, the fans did not seem to relate very much to it.

While looking to play beyond 40, similar to Tom Brady, Novak Djokovic has also remained hopeful that he could well beat the record set by Jimmy Connors in men’s tennis.

Djokovic sets his sight on the record set by Jimmy Connors

A legend of the game, Jimmy Connors went ahead to set a record of winning 109 career titles in the Open era. The Serbian Novak Djokovic remains in the second spot and has 98 titles to his name. That being said, Djokovic has now set his sights on the record held by Jimmy Connors and will use his remaining years to beat the record and further extend his legacy in tennis.

“Why shouldn’t I try to break that record? I currently have 12 fewer titles but I still have a few more successful years left in tennis, and I try to enjoy these moments which now mean and are worth double to me,” said Djokovic in the interview.
