The latest player to have caused a stir in the tennis world is 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz. He has been making waves with his impressive performances on the ATP Tour. Despite the hype surrounding him, a recent tweet by Patrick Mouratoglou has put things into perspective. He explained to the fans that Novak Djokovic is still the player to beat on the Tour, at least for now.
Mouratoglou recently tweeted his thoughts on who the best player in the world is. He unequivocally stated that it is the remarkable Serbian legend, Novak Djokovic. He clarified that if Alcaraz continues to play efficiently, he could become number one later on. However, for now, he thinks that Novak Djokovic is the best player of all time.

Mouratoglou was quick to point out that Alcaraz still has a long way to go before he can be considered on the same level as Djokovic. He praised the young Spaniard’s explosive power. However, he emphasized that Djokovic is a player who finds solutions to win, having won Grand Slams for the past 15 years. In the Instagram reel, the coach shared, ” The best player in the world is the number one. And It’s Novak Djokovic. If Alcaraz is number one tomorrow, we can say it is Alcaraz. I think Carlos Alcaraz is an incredible player and no doubt he will be number one for years. But at the moment all I can say is Novak is the best.”
Mouratoglou’s comments may seem harsh, but they highlight the reality of the tennis world. Alcaraz is undoubtedly an exceptional talent with a bright future ahead of him. However, he is still at the beginning of his career. Djokovic, on the other hand, has been a dominant force in the sport for over a decade, and his achievements speak for themselves.
The coach also added, “He is not able to play a major number of tournaments due to ‘non vaccinated’ reasons and still technically is number one. So that just says about his level of play. I think Carlos is more impressive than Novak in terms of tennis he plays. He has so much power, he is explosive physically. He also has a touch.”

Mouratoglou concluded by adding, “But don’t forget, Novak will be greatest of all time. And he is already extremely close to that. He is guy who finds solutions to win. He is the guy who is winning Grand Slams for 15 years. (The Nole) He is a man who arrived at a time that Rafa and Roger were winning absolutely everything. And he was available to arrive, beat both of them and become number one in the world. I understand that people want to put Carlos on top of him . He is not there yet.”
