With less than four days to go before the 2023 US Open‘s commencement, all eyes are set on Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. The top two players in the world have delivered every time they stepped on the courts. From the monumental Wimbledon final to a Cincinnati epic, Djokovic and Alcaraz love nail-biting finals.

However, the focus now shifts to New York. The last of the four Grand Slams of the calendar. US Open will soon be underway with the top tennis players combating for the crown. But how does their path to the ultimate glory in the upcoming fortnight look like?

It comes off as no surprise that Alcaraz and Djokovic occupy the top spots of different sections of the draw as the top two ranked players usually do. Aside from the top two players themselves, the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner would be posing plenty of threat.

Going by the draw, it seems like Alcaraz will have many more puzzles to solve as compared to his rival Djokovic. The ATP rankings assure fair draw making. However, it does not take into account the players’ form. Alcaraz might feel that he has been done dirty here in that regard.

Tedious path ahead for Alcaraz

Top guns like Djokovic and Alcaraz are expected to make it to the quarterfinals without any hesitation. However, the path starts getting tricky right there. The Spaniard is likely to take on Jannik Sinner or Alexander Zverev in the quarter-final and the 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final. Going by their form, Alcaraz could not have asked for a tougher draw. Zverev and Sinner have recently won titles at ATP 500 and ATP 1000 level, while Medvedev has won five titles already this year.

On the other hand, Djokovic is blessed with a lenient draw. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud and Holger Rune are the top seeds in his section of the draw. The above mentioned players have struggled to find form since the clay swing and not transitioned well for the hard courts.
