Americans always love to back their local players in tennis. Even in individual sports where nationalism isn’t prevalent, it only takes one tennis player to unite the entire nation. We have seen the likes of Venus and Serena Williams do it for years. Before them, we had the yesteryear legends, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi. In the absence of big names, Christopher Eubanks has taken the spotlight.

Eubanks’ dream run continues at Wimbledon as he pushed Daniil Medvedev to the brink of defeat in the quarterfinals. He started as a heavy underdog but the American has managed to force a decider against the Russian. In the process, Eubanks has united all of America to come forward and support his talent.

Eubanks was off to a poor start in the opening set. However, when he bounced back sharply to take the second set, the crowd erupted, and he was full of life again. ESPN posted the video of the crowd cheering Eubanks’ second set victory and Coco Gauff was also spotted in the mix.

Eubanks managed to draw Americans into watching his dream run at Wimbledon. Fans tuned in to watch him put on a show against Medvedev.

Fans were highly invested in the match owing to Eubanks’ mastery. The Wimbledon crowd cheering for an underdog American was appreciated by the fans.

It was beautiful to see Eubanks uniting an entire nation to support him against the world number 3. However, the fairytale run came to an end for the 27-year-old.

Christopher Eubanks loses a gruesome five-setter

Eubanks had the edge in the battle after taking the third set and going 2-1 up. However, Medvedev showed the world why he is a top 3 player. The Russian did not drop his serve once after the third set and took the fourth set tiebreak. Eventually, Eubanks did not have enough in his tank for the fifth set and succumbed to a five-set loss. Medvedev prevailed with a scoreline 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1.
