The heavily hyped-up Spaniard did not have an ideal start to his Toronto Masters quarter-final against Tommy Paul. He dropped the first set?6-3, owing to a poor service game. Right after conceding the break, Alcaraz failed to control his emotions and took it all out on his racket.

Spanish trailblazer Alcaraz felt annoyed with himself right after his opponent broke him in the opening set. While walking towards his seat, he threw his racket out at the bench. The crowd went silent as they had not seen this side of the usually cool and collected 20-year-old before. However, pressure is always part of the game and tends to always bring out the worst in the players.

Usually, players receive a code violation for racket abuse. However, the two-time major champion luckily got away with his actions here. The likes of Nick Kyrgios, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer have received violations for such incidents in the past. In a recent infamous instance, Djokovic found himself in a similar sticky spot at their recent meeting in the remarkable 2023 Wimbledon final.

The similarities between Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz don’t stop at gameplay
If you are a tennis fan, then you must be well aware of the never-ending comparisons between Carlos Alcaraz and members of the Big 3. His racket skills and movement indeed justify the bold comparisons. However, after this incident, racket-smashing tendencies can be considered another similarity between the master and the apprentice. In fact, Alcaraz got a front-row view of Djokovic’s racket smash in the Wimbledon final, as he stood on the other side of the net.
Temper tantrums and unruly displays of emotion aside, Alcaraz’s frustrations didn’t help him. Eventually, American player Tommy Paul outlasted him in three sets. The World No.1 managed to steal the momentum in the second set but did not have enough left in him for the decider as he succumbed 3-6,?6-4,?3-6.
