The ‘GOAT’, a popular abbreviation in the sporting realm has often been attributed to the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. While showcasing their phenomenal on-court prowess, the ATP legends have enjoyed a combined 65 Grand Slam triumphs during their competitive tennis journeys.

Each player of the ‘Big 3’ on the men’s tour, is an all-round player, but the Swiss Maestro has an upper hand over his arch-rivals at the US Open. However, despite having won more hard-court major titles than Nadal, and Djokovic, the former tennis ace has earned the least prize money amongst the ‘Big 3’.

Roger Federer’s bittersweet success at the US Open

In 2011, Novak Djokovic overcame his arch-rival and the defending champion, Rafael Nadal in a five-set thriller in Flushing Meadows. After securing his first US Open title, the 36-year-old bagged championship prize money of $1,800,000.

Later, in the 2015 US Open, the ‘Djoker’ emerged victorious in the title match against Federer and earned $3,300,000. Then again another hard-court major triumph was marked by Djokovic in 2018 when he received a whopping $3.8 million.

Rafael Nadal, on the other hand, won his first major title in New York after defeating Djokovic in the 2010 final. The ‘King of the Clay’ was awarded a prize purse of $1,700,000.  In the 2013 and 2017 US Open, the Spaniard bagged $2,600,000 and $3,700,000 while winning two more title matches at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Two seasons later, the former world No. 1  won his 4th US Open title and a prize money of $3,850,000.

Unlike, Nadal and Djokovic, the Swiss tennis legend tasted a bittersweet success in the US Open. Federer enjoyed 5 consecutive championship victories in New York. From 2004 to 2008, the former tennis ace defeated the likes of Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, in the US Open finals.  After winning his first two hard court major titles, Federer got prize money of  $1 million and $1.1 million,  in 2004 and 2005.

Later in 2006, the 20 singles Grand Slam champion once again overcame Roddick and received $1.2 million alongside his championship trophy. Federer earned a total of $2.8 million after two seasons, with $1.4 million going to each of the two editions of the tournament.

Despite winning five US Open titles, Federer has earned the least amount of money ($6.1 million) compared to his arch-rivals, Djokovic ($8.9 million) and Nadal ($11.85 million).
