This year, the Monte Carlo Masters tournament had been incredible for players. However, the tournament showed some surprising results as youngsters cemented their position on the top list with their remarkable games throughout. On Thursday, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who was about to touch the 39th Master’s trophy, was defeated by the 21-year-old Lorenzo Musetti with 4-6, 7-5, and 6-4. Djokovic, who was grueling in Roland Garros clash in 2021 against Musetti, this year, the youngster claimed a comeback victory in windy conditions.

In an interview, the youngster revealed his idol as Roger Federer. However, he also revealed one big name of the legendary tennis player as the toughest opponent to play a knock.

The Italian idolizes Roger Federer

The rising Italian player talked about idolizing Roger Federer while growing up on the tennis circuit. He has often been heard talking about the Swiss Maestro in several of his interviews. This time too, it was no different. During an interview with Gio Journal, Musetti expressed his love for Federer. In the interview out of six questions, Musetti happened to refer Federer to three of them.

Interviewer: Who was your favorite Player growing up?

LM:  So my favorite player, for sure, was Roger Federer, who has always been my inspiration.

Interviewer: Which retired player would you have loved to play?

LM: I would have loved to play against Roger, unfortunately I did not get a chance to.

Interviewer: Who do you think is the greatest player of all time in Tennis?

LM: for me, Roger Federer is the greatest player of all time.

In the second half of the interview, the youngster also talked about another legendary tennis player, when he was asked the toughest player to play a knock. He referred to Serena Williams. Following the reference, he explained the Queen of the court has the ‘strength of a man’.

Interviewer: Of all the great women tennis players, both past and present, who do you think would be the hardest to play?

LM: The greatest woman all time to play against, probably would be Serena Williams because she had the strength of a man and she was hitting hardballs and I think it for sure it would have been tough to play against her.

Winning as many Grand Slams as possible is the only dream every tennis player looks forward to. The World no. 20 in ATP rank holder has the same big vision to keep stamping Grand Slams till he is committed to the sport.

Interviewer: What is your dream in tennis?

LM: My dream is to be number one in the world and try to win as many Grand Slams as possible
