Before the awaited match, Spain’s captain David Ferrer had an interaction with the media. When asked whether Nadal was ready for playing, he simply replied, “I don’t know yet. You will know tomorrow. For the moment, I have not decided the players that are gonna play tomorrow.” On top of Ferrer’s response, what makes the entire situation even more mysterious is Rafael’s own statement.

While he’s very emotional to say goodbye to tennis, he believes that Spain’s success is more important than his appearance itself. He just wants to contribute in whatever way possible, not necessarily by playing only. “I’m going to try to prepare in the best way possible to be available and then see what the captain decides. I want to help in any way, whether it’s playing or not, just being here and contributing what I can,” said Nadal.

One major reason for Nadal to skip his appearance on the court could be due to his injuries. In case he feels he’s ready and fully fit to represent Spain, then he may decide to play, especially in the singles. Meanwhile, fellow Spanish legend Alex Corretja has raised doubts on the former World No.1’s participation in the singles match.

“So will he risk playing singles? Because you never know with the movements, the feeling. Probably he’ll save his energy for the doubles, but doubles can be crucial in the Davis Cup. So Rafa can add a lot of things to the team,” said Corretja

As of now, millions of fans worldwide are hoping to witness Nadal’s amazing strokes for one last time. But it’s yet to be seen whether he will step on the court or not. Do you think he will eventually decide to participate in his farewell match today? Let us know in the comments below.
