The Russian-Ukraine conflict has taken a toll on the Eastern part of Europe. The geopolitical tensions have been going on for months and haven’t ceased to exist. Further, the sporting world has been affected too. Take for example the Davis Cup tie between Ukraine and the United States. Owing to the tensions in Ukraine, the tie is being held in a neutral venue, Lithuania.

Despite this, the home team has shown big heart by competing strongly amid tough times. They have been ably supported by their counterparts, who made a wonderful gesture during their tie.

Davis Cup brings out a noble gesture from the American side

Team USA is the 7th seed in the qualifiers and strong favorites against Ukraine. Boasting stars like Taylor Fritz and Chris Eubanks, they won their tie comfortably. However, what was interesting to see was a kind move by the American team during the tie.

They wore bows and badges on their kit and called for peace in Ukraine. It was a wonderful and heartwarming act by the American team, who not only won their opponents’ hearts but also the fans. Their move was widely appreciated on social media, with thousands of fans praising the kind act. The video of Team USA greeting their opponents after the match was shared by Davis Cup’s official Twitter handle. It went viral as soon as it was posted, as fans took note of the kind gesture by Fritz and co. Meanwhile, despite his wonderful gesture, Fritz disappointed his fans before the tie.

Fritz pulls out due to an injury

The American star had a grueling Australian Open campaign, where he reached the quarterfinals. In the last eight, he lost out to Novak Djokovic after giving a good fight. Subsequently, he suffered a minor injury.

Fritz pulled out of his opening singles tie at the Davis Cup against Ukraine due to a right hip injury. Chris Eubanks took his place. However, Fritz is back and his match is currently underway against Vladyslav Orlov, although it is a dead rubber.

With this win, Team USA advanced to the Davis Cup Finals. The group stage of the finals leg will be held in September later this year. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on the top in this multi-nation tournament.
