As the Davis Cup Finals gets closer and closer, the big question remains – Will we see Rafael Nadal play in singles? The Spanish squad already boasts of some exciting players in the form of Carlos Alcaraz and Pedro Martinez. Moreover, Nadal has been away from the court for long, having recently come back from injuries. Thus, many tennis bigwigs feel that Nadal’s participation remains unlikely in singles at least. However, Spain’s captain, David Ferrer made a big revelation in this regard.
Ahead of Spain’s quarterfinal clash against the Netherlands, David Ferrer was involved in an interview. During the conversation there, he was asked if Nadal was ready for selection. Ferrer replied, “I don’t know yet. You will know tomorrow. For the moment, I have not decided the players that are gonna play tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Nadal is all geared up for the final act. The Spanish legend wants to have one last laugh before retiring and doesn’t want the emotions of his farewell to come in the way of winning the Davis Cup title. As a result, he revealed, “I’m going to try to prepare in the best way possible to be available and then see what the captain decides. I want to help in any way, whether it’s playing or not, just being here and contributing what I can.”

Additionally, fellow Spanish legend, Alex Corretja also questioned Nadal’s participation in singles, saying, “So will he risk playing singles? Because you never know with the movements, the feeling. Probably he’ll save his energy for the doubles, but doubles can be crucial in the Davis Cup. So Rafa can add a lot of things to the team.”

It’s difficult to hold the level on a constant basis when you’re not competing for a while.
