Can David Goffin's fatherhood fuel a career renaissance, or is this just a fleeting moment of glory?

David Goffin is finding some of his vintage best at the Shanghai Masters with a fresh motivation; his newborn daughter. The Belgian star is flipping the tables on his competitors in the Asian hardcourt swing. While Goffin’s recent triumphs have earned him massive attention from fans, his wife also chimed in with high praises following the Belgian’s adorable gesture for their daughter.

The 33-year-old registered his maiden Top 10 victory since 2022 after stunning Alexander Zverev ‘Sascha’ in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, during their fourth-round showdown. Subsequently, Goffin is through to his first ATP 1000 Masters quarterfinal in nearly three years, while also marking his deepest-ever run in Shanghai. The Belgian commenced his campaign in China at No. 66, with his then-last recorded attendance at the US Open. The reason for his absence? Goffin and his wife, Stephanie Tuccitto, welcomed their first baby girl Emma on September 17.

Having recently embraced fatherhood, Goffin dedicated a heartfelt message to his daughter after thrashing ‘Sascha’ in Shanghai. During an-court interview, the former World No. 7 signed the camera with the letter ‘E’ inside of a heart. Goffin also reserved a few words in tribute to his newborn girl saying: “I wanted to show my daughter that I can be a good tennis player, so I will try to find a few more years just to show her that I can still play tennis. That’s the case for the moment. Even if she doesn’t realize yet, hopefully, she will come and watch a little bit.”

While talking to ‘Punto de break’, the Belgian noted: “We are the same age, so I wondered why I shouldn’t try to climb in the rankings as well. It’s quite inspiring to see what he’s doing. I don’t know if I’ll be able to return to the Top 10, but for now, I have good tennis, and we’ll see how far I can go.”

Next up, Goffin is due for his quarterfinal match-up against Taylor Fritz. While impressive form has captivated many, the Belgian upcoming challenge won’t be easy to surpass. In hopes of advancing to the last four, both the players will take to the court on Friday, September 11.
