Daniil Medvedev's family time in Central Park—Is this the secret to his on-court success?

Behind every successful man, there is a woman, it is often said. However, in the case of Daniil Medvedev, there are not one but two pillars of support at the ongoing US Open. The Russian tennis star is backed by his wife, Daria Medvedeva, and daughter, Alisa. The duo traveled together with Medvedev for the US Open and can be seen in the stands cheering for the fifth seed. Ahead of Medvedev’s crunch pre-quarterfinal battle, Daria and Alisa had a gala time in New York.

Daniil Medvedev is set to face Nuno Borges in the round of 16, later today. Yesterday, the Russian star had an off day, and his wife and daughter ensured they enjoyed their Sunday. Daria Medvedeva took to her official Instagram handle and shared a series of pictures that gave a glimpse of her time out in the city. They visited New York’s Central Park and shared some refreshing pictures amid the intense action at Flushing Meadows.

In the first picture, Daria Medvedea could be seen posing candidly while her daughter looks overjoyed with her balloon set. Medvedev’s wife captioned the picture, “Same place,” along with a heart emoji, that brought back memories from their visit here last year. Back in 2023, Daniil Medvedev, along with his wife and daughter, visited Central Park Zoo in New York ahead of his 4th round match.

Medvedev’s wife has been in much news of late over a sensational claim made by Medvedev himself. Apparently, during a training session at Wimbledon 6 years ago, the American player Taylor Fritz made a cheating claim on Medvedev, that was overheard by the Russian star’s wife. She then let Medvedev know and Medvedev recently made it public in a press conference.

Daniil Medvedev reflects on Taylor Fritz’s ‘cheating’ claim

At a time when the intensity in sports is at its peak, the players do not want to come second-best even during practice matches. As a result, they sometimes go too far in order to succeed. Ask Daniil Medvedev, who didn’t have the best experiences while practicing against Fritz.

A few years ago at Wimbledon, Fritz and Medvedev were playing in a practice match. However, the American star wasn’t happy with Medvedev’s judgments during line calls and accused him of cheating, which Medvedev didn’t hear himself, but was told by his wife Daria.

Describing the incident, Medvedev said, “We played Wimbledon. It would probably be 2018 or ’19. So long ago. We both were not where we are right now. Brutally honest, I don’t want to cheat on practice, but you know, sometimes you don’t see the ball. Then my wife – I think at the time she was even maybe a girlfriend to me – talks to me after the practice and says that he was talking to his coach and was, like, Damn this guy, he cheats all the time.”

These accusations shocked Medvedev, but Fritz later mentioned that he didn’t mean it. It was Fritz’s habit to turn to his coach whenever a bad line call was made and the same happened while practicing against Medvedev. Nonetheless, the incident is history now and the two would bring their focus back to the US Open.
