“Warning for unsportsmanlike conduct” has become the highlight of the Wimbledon semifinal battle today! Every tennis fan has their gaze set on the Gentlemen’s first clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. However, the start of the much-awaited battle is at a crossroads for all the wrong reasons. Courtesy: Medvedev’s controversy! And Coco Gauff’s coach has something to share with the Wimbledon organizers to avoid such a clash in the future. How can Wimbledon stop the repeat of the highlighted controversy?
The beginning of the clash of titans was marred by an unwarranted controversy due to a misunderstanding of a double bounce by Medvedev. What followed this was an exchange of harsh words with the umpire and finally, the supervisor intervening to sort the issue without disqualification. And Medvedev was issued a warning, thus inducing a magnetic field to attract every gaze toward him. However, Gauff’s coach has suggested a solution that could reduce the incidence rate of this misunderstanding. Asking tournament to work with technology!

Brad Gilbert came forward to tweet his views on the controversy as he expressed displeasure over such happenings. He said, “As I am watching Escape from Alcaraz vs Meddy Bear I really hope in 2025 championships we go to electronic line calling, like we do @AustralianOpen@usopen.” Certainly, it seems out of place for such a reputed tournament not to be up to date with the technology as the other slams. Gilbert poses the same question, “Absolutely no reason why umpires don’t have monitors on the court for incidentals like the double bounces, etc.” With the monitor availability to the umpire, there would have been no doubt as, they would be able to assess the finer details of the point from player’s sight.

Everyone is leveraging technology wherever possible to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the event. Wimbledon and players can certainly benefit from it as less controversy leads to more enjoyable tennis and positive vibes throughout. But it’s not just the tournament that Gilbert wants to upgrade but Europe’s shower too!
Coco Gauff’s coach disappointment with European showers sees no end
Cultural shocks can be quite unbearable for some people, and that also includes Gilbert. In the last 3 months, while traveling Europe for clay and grass swing with his young protege Gauff, one thing has constantly disappointed him at the European hotels: open shower doors! And this disappointment carried itself to London.
While posting another complaint on X, this time in London, he said, “My bad 😞 streak of the ridiculous half shower 🧼 is up to 4, moved into nice 👍 flat in the village this morning and of course both showers 🧼 ,”
The American tennis star Gauff had a successful European tour. Though the Grand Slam trophy stayed out of her reach at both, the French Open and Wimbledon Championships in the singles. But the World No. 2 added the Roland Garros title in the doubles. However, her Wimbledon campaign was not as successful as tennis fans and she would have anticipated as he made a surprising R14 exit.
However, Gauff’s coach is certainly on his way to refining not only her style but the whole European swing when it comes to technology and showers!
