We’re all acquainted with the long-standing ‘hate’ theory between Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Having plenty of bad blood between them, the duo has showcased one of the most nerving rivals in the sport. But what happens when we put them in a room, cast aside their previous differences, and enable them to fight for a unified cause? Well, that’s exactly what happened, and the aftermath was very ‘champagne-y’.

At the Laver Cup, both players tasked themselves with representing Team Europe. Casting aside much hue and cry surrounding their team-up, the superstars found a way to reconcile. After thwarting Team World’s hopes for a three-peat at the event and bagging their fifth overall title, Medvedev and Tsitsipas were witnessed celebrating as a proper team, to put it mildly.

Their elation welcomed the onset of a potential friendship between the two; before you guess it, the Russian was clearly in the mood to stir that pot. Presenting with a plethora of champagne bottles after clinching the trophy in Berlin, team Europe was ready to take full advantage of their triumph. In a scene that painted a different emotion than the one in his match against Ben Shelton, tennis fans saw the unexpected.

In a video released on X, the European teammates sprayed each other with the sparkling drink. What followed next was Meddy catching up to Tsitsipas to ensure the Greek talent wasn’t left behind. The Russian star soaked the former World No.3 in champagne after hilariously witnessing the latter sidelined from the celebratory moments.

For those unaware, both players were caught up in a nasty controversy at the 2018 Miami Open. Following their contest, Tsitsipas and Medvedev’s infamous fight headlined the sport after the Russian traded barbs with him during a post-match presser. However, that was water under the bridge for Meddy at the Laver Cup.

Daniil Medvedev stresses support for Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Laver Cup

Acknowledging his team-up with rivals Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev at the Laver Cup, Daniil Medvedev reserved a few words to clarify his stance on whether he wishes to drag their long-standing feuds. To much surprise, the Russian star hoped not to wreck the team spirit and was all support for the 26-year-old Greek.

Notably, during a presser, the 28-year-old highlighted that although he doesn’t see eye to eye with the ‘Greek God’, he has “respect for each other. So we’re here, we support 100 percent each other, and honestly, at least for me, it’s an easy switch. I don’t think it’s that tough, because we, for sure when we play sometimes in the press conference, we can, you know, say some things.”

After an exciting weekend in Berlin, Meddy will be looking to his next adventure. The 2021 US Open champion is slated to attend the China Open in Beijing next, scheduled to commence on September 25.
